アメリカン・ジャズ・ナイト　~American Jazz Night ~

2017年４月17日(月）、リーガロイヤルホテル「山楽の間」にて米国空軍太平洋音楽隊 “パシフィック・ショーケース” による演奏会「アメリカン・ジャズ・ナイト」を開催いたしました。米国空軍太平洋音楽隊様の多大なるご厚意により開催に至りました今回の大阪日米協会で５年ぶり、３回目の演奏会も、参加された皆様は、選りすぐりのミュージシャンで構成されるビッグ・バンドによるスィング・ジャズを心ゆくまでご堪能されました。米国空軍太平洋音楽隊は、グレン・ミラーが創設した陸軍航空隊軍楽隊の流れを汲む、初期のニュー・オーリンズ ジャズから洗練されたモダンジャズ、誰もが口ずさめるヴォーカル･ナンバーなど幅広いレパートリーを取り揃えた１４名編成のバンドです。当日は、「インザムード」をはじめとするグレン・ミラーメドレーや「ハナミズキ」などの演奏に加え、お誕生日祝いのサプライズ演出もあり、すばらしい演奏の時間はあっという間に過ぎ、最後は観客総立ちでのアンコールとなりました。

アレン・グリンバーグ総領事の乾杯で幕をあけた懇親会では、演奏を終えたばかりの米国空軍太平洋音楽隊の方々もユニフォーム姿で参加され、会員の皆様と一緒にお食事、ご歓談の時を過ごされました。また、音楽隊からJASO川崎会長へ思わぬ記念品の贈呈もあり、音楽を通じての日米交流のイベントは大いに盛り上がりました。

 

We hosted the “American Jazz Night” concert on Monday, April 17, 2017, performed by the Pacific Showcase ensemble of USAF Band of the Pacific, at the RIHGA Royal Hotel. This was their third time performing for JASO in Osaka, and it had been five years since JASO last welcomed the USAF Band of the Pacific. The entire audience thoroughly enjoyed this specially selected big band’s wonderful “swing jazz” performance.

USAF Band of the Pacific, which descended from Glenn Miller’s Army Air Force Band, is a 14-piece band that demonstrates a wide and varied repertoire, from early New Orleans jazz and sophisticated modern jazz to world-famous vocal songs. On stage, they played Glenn Miller’s standard numbers such as “In the Mood” and Japanese song “Hanamizuki”. They even arranged a surprise birthday celebration for any of those attendees who had a birthday within a day or two of the concert. Their wonderful performance completely captivated the whole audience, bringing everyone to a standing ovation and an encore from the band to close out the show.

After the concert, US Consul General Allen S. Greenberg commenced the reception with a toast. The band members who had just finished the performance also joined the party and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and conversation. During the show, an unexpected gift was presented from Master Sergeant Ricky Swuem to JASO President Kawasaki, which highlighted the friendship between Japan and America shown through music.
