日本に滞在する米国人たちとの交流を目的とした「バーベキュー・パーティ」を下記の通り開催します。野外で美味しいお肉やお飲み物を召し上がりながら、日米の若い世代を交えた国際交流の楽しいひと時をお過ごしいただければ幸いです。ご家族やお友達をお誘い合わせの上、どうぞ奮ってご参加下さい。また米国人のお知り合いがいらっしゃいましたら、是非ともお声掛けをしていただきますようお願い致します。多くの皆さまのご参加を心からお待ち申し上げております。

※　このイベントは大阪日米協会「ユース・サポート委員会」が関わる最初の企画です。同委員会は、ここ数年、当協会の大きな課題であった若い世代および米国人の参加を促すべく、会則の附則第21条（「会長は必要に応じ、委員を委嘱し、特別の事項を処理させることができる」）にもとづき発足しました。メンバーはすべてボランティアで携わり、事務局運営の補佐を行います。委員長は事務局長の高谷が務めます。

We are pleased to announce that JASO, the Japan-America Society of Osaka will organize a “Barbeque Party” on Sunday, June 10 at the Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park (please see the map).

We have already booked 15 barbeque tables in the park, which will allow 120 people to get together to feast on great food and cold beers (wines and soft drinks are also available).  It will be an occasion to meet friendly people both Japanese and American from various backgrounds – business people, students, teachers, lawyers, journalists, artists and those who retired with experience living in the States so on.  There will be also games to get people more involved with each other.  Altogether, it will be a great opportunity to broaden your social life in Japan!

　大阪日米協会の恒例のゴルフ大会を５月５日、有馬ロイヤルゴルフクラブで開催しました。

1965年に始まったゴルフ大会ですが、昨年は東日本大震災の発生により中止となり、２年振りの開催となりました。

　前日まで不安定な天候が続き、悪天候が懸念されましたが、大会当日は朝から晴れわたり、好天のもとで新緑の名門コースを堪能し、会員の親睦をはかることができました。

なお優勝は、OUT 39 IN 42 GROSS 81　H.D 7.2  NET 73.8の好スコアで蛯原康治さんが獲得。

また、ドラコン賞を松井絵里さん、ニアピン賞を端崎優子さんが獲得するなど、女性の活躍が際立った大会となりました。

     On May 5, JASO’s Annual Golf Competition was held at the Arima Royal Golf Club.  The competition, held annually since 1965, took place after one year interval as last year’s event was called off due to the earthquake.

     Although a rather bad condition was expected because of unstable weather preceding the competition day, the sky was all clear from the morning and the participants very much enjoyed Arima’s famous course surrounded by fresh verdure, as well as promoting friendship under beautiful weather.

     The JASO Cup was won by Mr. Koji Ebihara with a wonderful score of OUT 39/IN 42 GROSS 81 H.D.7.2. NET 73.8.  Ms. Eri Matsui and Ms. Yuko Hashizaki won the long-driving contest and closest-to-the pin contest respectively.  It seemed ladies took most of the highlights of the day.

　大阪日米協会では、昨年９月に在日米海軍パウロ・マックルール中佐による講演会「トモダチ作戦と日米の絆」を開催致しましたが、この度、陸上自衛隊第三師団長 番匠幸一郎陸将をお招きして、講演会「トモダチ作戦と日米の絆 Part 2　―　自衛隊とアメリカ　東日本大震災での共同作戦」を下記の通り開催する運びとなりました。

　昨年３月に発生した東日本大震災では、多くの方が犠牲となり、またそれによって日本が受けた影響は図り知れません。と同時に「トモダチ作戦」を通して私たちは日米の絆の重要性を再認識いたしました。

　大阪日米協会は、トモダチ作戦を今日の日米関係を考える上で極めて重要なテーマとして位置づけ、昨年自衛隊が行った震災活動において米軍との連携で中心的役割を果たされた番匠陸将をお招きし、自衛隊側から見たトモダチ作戦の全容と自衛隊の復興支援活動などについてお話をお聞きします。番匠陸将は米国陸軍戦略大学等へご留学され、またイラク復興支援活動の第一陣としてサマワで指揮をとるなど、卓越した国際感覚を持つ自衛官としても良く知られた方でいらっしゃいます。

　なお、この講演会は、大阪・サンフランシスコ姉妹都市提携55周年事業の一環として行われます。

“Operation Tomodachi and the Japan–U.S. Relationship Part 2

– SDF and USFJ on the joint operation in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake” 

       We are pleased to announce that we will host a talk “Operation Tomodachi and the Japan–U.S. Relationship Part 2 – SDF and USFJ on the joint operation in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake” to be delivered by Lieutenant General Koichiro Bansho, Commanding General, 3^rd Division, JGSDF.  This is a sequel to the talk we had last September by Commander Paul McClure of the U.S. Navy on the similar topic but to be accounted from the other side.

　　　Depth and magnitude of the devastation inflicted by the earthquake are still to be measured.  Nevertheless, it is certain that through the rescue mission carried out by the U.S. Forces – Operation Tomodachi – on an unprecedented scale, we came to a full realization how important the Japan-U.S. relationship has been.   

       The Japan-America Society of Osaka considers that the bond demonstrated in the joint operation between SDF and USFJ represents an extremely important aspect of the current Japan-U.S. relationship. In the light of this, we will invite Mr. Koichiro Bansho of SDF, who was very much instrumental in maintaining a tight liaison between SDF and USFJ in Operation Tomodachi in order to implement a large number of extremely complicated rescue and reconstruction missions.  Mr. Bansho who studied at the Strategic Studies Institute of US Army War College, served as the commander in the first PKO mission by SDF in Samawah, Iraq in 2004. With such an international background he is very much well known for his deep insight and knowledge in the international relations and security issues.

       This event is organized as a part of the 55th year anniversary program commemorating the cities Osaka and San Francisco made a sister city treaty in 1957.
